CHANTILLY, Va. – August 5, 2024 All Traffic Solutions (ATS) awarded a Shield 12 radar speed sign to The University Circle Police Department in Cleveland, Ohio through the company’s ATS Gives Back initiative.

All Traffic Solutions is committed to creating safe streets and neighborhoods nationwide with their products and software. Over the years, ATS found that police departments in smaller communities have a need for All Traffic Solutions signs but lack the necessary funds and may not qualify for grants. The ATS Gives Back goal is to bridge this gap by donating a data-collecting radar speed display sign to a community in need each month. ATS Gives Back recipients also receive a subscription to TraffiCloud®, a secure online portal for remote equipment management and ready-made traffic reports.

The University Circle Police Department, located on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, serves a small area with a high population density of over 50,000 local employees and nearly 10,000 residents. With this small area containing many streets, pedestrians, and vehicles, traffic safety is a top priority. In an effort to enhance traffic safety measures, University Circle Police Sergeant Kurt Keeper applied to the ATS Gives Back program seeking a donation to help support Project Yield, a community-driven pedestrian safety initiative focused on identifying data-driven solutions to improve traffic safety.. In the application, Sergeant Keeper stated that the police department would use the new radar speed sign to reduce speeding and assist in targeted data collection efforts to better advocate for safer transportation infrastructure. To support their application, the University Circle Police Department secured letters of support from key stakeholders in the community including the Cleveland Division of Police, Case Western Reserve University, and the City of Cleveland. This collaborative effort emphasizes the University Circle Police Department’ commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of the community they serve.

The University Circle Police recently deployed their new Shield 12 radar speed sign in the community to address specific areas of concern. The traffic-calming radar sign is strategically positioned in high-traffic areas where speeding is a prevalent issue, ultimately working to help prevent accidents, enhance overall road safety, and collect data to help with advocacy efforts. The department posed for a picture with their new sign, stating, “This important speed calming device will help us in our mission of controlling driver misbehavior and making our special community a safer place to travel and enjoy for motorists and pedestrians. We look forward to using data collected by the sign to pinpoint areas requiring special attention and advocate for safety improvements in our community.”
