CHANTILLY, Va. – March 1, 2024 All Traffic Solutions (ATS) awarded a Shield 12 radar speed sign to Coats Police Department in North Carolina through the company’s ATS Gives Back initiative. The company chose to give away an extra sign in 2023 for Giving Tuesday in addition to the regular one sign per month they donate through ATS Gives Back.

All Traffic Solutions is committed to creating safe streets and neighborhoods across the country with their products and software. Over the years, ATS found that police departments in smaller communities have a need for All Traffic Solutions signs but lack the necessary funds and do not qualify for grants. The ATS Gives Back goal is to bridge this gap by donating a data-collecting radar speed sign to a community in need each month. ATS Gives Back recipients also receive a subscription to TraffiCloud®, a secure online portal for remote equipment management and ready-made traffic reports.

The Coats Police Department is located in Harnett County, North Carolina, and serves just over 2,000 residents. The police department, consisting of eight full-time officers, applied to the ATS Gives Back program with the hope of gaining a new tool to combat speeding. One of the main roads connecting to the local State Highway 27 and two major intersections within the town have observed many speeding drivers, resulting in numerous accidents. The residents and officers had taken notice of this issue and were looking for ways to address it.

The Coats Police Department is “extremely happy to have this resource in town” to address speeding concerns on local roadways, according to Officer Anthony Kolaya. Not only has the Shield 12 reduced speeding in their community, but their TraffiCloud software subscription has provided an easy and secure way to access data collected by the Shield 12 sign and generate multiple traffic reports. These reports have assisted their department by providing easy-to-read charts and graphs that can be shared with the community. “One of our favorite reports is the enforcement priorities. It has allowed us to pinpoint the days and times for officers to conduct enforcement actions; this report has prevented unproductive idle time for the officers which has saved in fuel costs and allowed officers to be productive in other areas of their job. Another resource in the reports that has been extremely helpful is [showing] the sign effectiveness. ” said Officer Kaloya.

The Shield 12 radar speed signs are lightweight and portable, weighing under 20lbs, and can be securely mounted on multiple different kinds of poles and posts. This versatility makes it easy for the sign to move to almost any location to address speeding. “One of the biggest benefits from this sign is when we have citizen complaints on speed we can easily and quickly deploy the sign to the complaint location. This pleases the citizens and helps to address the root cause of the complaint.” said Officer Kaloya.
